Heating and refrigeration trade schools instruct future technicians in how to install major heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) appliances and units. They also teach students how to maintain the mechanical components; such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, and pipes, as well as the electrical components of heating and refrigeration systems.

Healing and refrigeration vocational schools prepare candidates in the maintenance, diagnostics, and problem solving essential to the understanding of delivering technical services, which are frequently updated and amended with the development and importance of renewable energies.

Heating and refrigeration trade schools offer studies in heating and refrigeration technology; design; standards and guidelines relating to heating and refrigeration systems; building codes; indoor and outdoor air quality; safety and classification of refrigerants; and the practical application of heating and refrigeration design and technology. Additionally, heating and refrigeration vocational schools may also offer courses in the maintenance of professional licenses through continuing education; as most states require periodic license renewal.
